Donald Trump was sitting in the cab of a giant truck, playing and honking the horn as his plan to scrap Obamacare hit a major road block.
The President and Republican leaders’ failure to broker a deal for a replacement bill with libertarian Congressmen has left the Trump administration’s legislative agenda in crisis. But in the run up to the planned vote last night, Trump was down the road outside the White House, sitting in the cab of a lorry.
He honked the horn, pulled faces and was pictured wearing an ‘I ♥ TRUCKS’ badge.The Republicans have been trying for seven years to repeal the Affordable Healthcare Act, which reduced the number of uninsured Americans by tens of thousands.
After promising for months as a candidate to repeal and replace Obamacare, Trump has still not produced his own plan to do so, choosing instead to support a rollback bill drafted by senior Republicans in the House of Representatives, including House Speaker Paul Ryan.
But members of the conservative ‘Freedom Caucus’ group last night appeared unwilling to agree to the bill, because it doesn’t go far enough to strip out Government involvement in healthcare.
Last night, Trump warned Congress that if they couldn’t come to an agreement, he’d withdraw the plan altogether and leave Obamacare in place – a result that would greatly please Democrats
